Welcome to Broad Water Connections, an exchange Program, where we bridge the cultural gap between children in the USA and the West Coast of Africa through a unique pen-pal program and an exciting toy exchange initiative.
Despite being separated by just 300 ocean miles, the US east coast and West Africa may seem worlds apart culturally. Many children on each continent have limited exposure to the rich tapestry of the other's culture, often relying on biased media portrayals. Our mission is to change that by fostering a deeper understanding and cultural exchange among these young minds.
Our toy exchange program is designed to bring the joy of receiving a gift from a friend across the water while providing an avenue for kids to explore each other's unique cultures. When children join our program, they become part of a pen-pal initiative, connecting them with a peer from the other continent. Through a yearlong correspondence, children get to explore and appreciate each other's daily lives, customs, traditions, and current interests.
We firmly believe that these exchanges can serve as a catalyst for empathy, understanding, and respect for diverse cultures. By connecting children whose roots have been separated through the African diaspora, we aim to make a lasting impact on fostering global connections and friendships that transcend borders.
